Mischief Maker!

I promised to tell you how only children can entertain ourselves and why there is a need so here we go.

There was a dog and Pudgy was his name. I loved having company as a child, what child doesn’t want a playmate. However, don’t get me wrong there were times that I enjoyed being alone. I found solace in it and it has helped me in these past three years regroup as I was alone often. I have always had my share of friends but this guy was my first friend, my brother so to speak (again I digress – look out for those squirrels they can go running by at any moment.) Pudgy was my companion. My source of fun!

One day when I was three I must have been very bored. My next door neighbors had something else to do and I only had myself and the dog to keep me entertained. I decided that I wanted to play baby doll. But I was bored with my dolls and some of them I was not permitted to play with because they were Madam Alexander dolls! (do they still have them????) So I decided while my mom was busy I would play baby with Pudgy. But I had a dilemma, I needed to get him up to my room. Hmmmmmm!!!!

This poor dog, I was a smart little three-year old. So I grabbed the box of treats and placed one on every other step, luring him up. Once we were up stairs I locked him in the room with me and proceeded to cover him in Baby Magic lotion and Baby Magic Powder. I had red shag carpet in my room, so you can imagine the mess. At that point is when my mom heard the dog crying so she called to me and as usual I was quiet as a mouse. As she entered my room she saw what I was doing as I had two cloth diapers pinned together around him!!! (Not sure how I learned to use a pin at three but evidently I was also resourceful!)

My mother became pudgy’s hero for a second time in his life (the first time she rescued him as his mother was discarded on the streets and the second time she rescued him from me!) To this day I am not sure how I am still living, one because my mother didn’t yell at me or beat me with a wooden spoon (yes kids spankings were allowed back then), and two the dog didn’t even think of biting me.

I told you we have to entertain ourselves!!!

Some of us are just better at it then others!

  1. WELL, YOU AND YOUR COUSIN JIM, HAD A CAN OF POWDER IN COMMON…….HE USED TO MAKE CHOO-CHOO SMOKE EVERY DAY ALL OVER HIS DARK PINE FURNITURE UNTIL AGE THREE. I NEVER HIT HIM EITHER, BUT I BECAME TIRED OF CLEANING UP THAT MESS EVERY DAY. SO NOW, I SIT AND LAUGH AT THE STORIES ABOUT THE THE THREE OF YOU AND REMEMBER THEM AS THE MOST FUN TIMES OF MY LIFE. YOU WERE 5 OR 6 WHEN I JOINED THE CLUB, AND THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LITTLE GIRL I HAD EVER SEEN. LOVE YOU, AUNT KAREN
